Abstract
The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between self reflection, self esteem, and parental role satisfaction, and to verify the mediating effects of self esteem on the relationship between self reflection and parental role satisfaction for mothers with young children. 288 mothers were surveyed in this study. Regression analysis and the structural equation modeling were performed. According to the results of this study, the following was observed; Firstly, self reflection significantly affects parental role satisfaction. When mothers think about self exploration, awareness, and other forms of exploration, they are generally satisfied in their roles as mothers. Additionally, when mothers think about self exploration, they are generally satisfied with the quality of the relationships that they have with their children. When mothers think about self exploration and other forms of exploration, they feel lower levels of conflict regarding their parental roles. Second, the model goodness of fit and significant paths was proven. The moderating effects of self esteem on the relationships between self reflection and parental role satisfaction were thus confirmed. Therefore, self reflection not only has a direct effect on parental role satisfaction but also has an effect on parental role satisfaction through the workings of self esteem. With this in mind, it is hoped that this study will be useful and a valued element as a guide for mothers and to improve self reflection on the part of parents. In conclusion, the implications for future studies are also discussed.
